EGLOSKERRY was in a nostalgic mood on Saturday, July 9 at the ‘Through the Years’ coffee morning.

Villagers and friends were asked to dig out all their old photographs of Egloskerry and bring them along to the village hall.

There was a good display of the old railway station and some of the trains that passed through. A rare photograph of schoolchildren outside the village school, which is now used as the village hall caused a lot of interest — unfortunately the exact date was unknown.

A wonderful print of Egloskerry Cheese makers dated 1917 was found in Ruth Passmore’s parent’s house and Sarah Uren was hoping to find out the names of a group of uniformed men she had found.

There was a group photo of Egloskerry Home Guard, and one of the dedication of the War Memorial at Egloskerry Church in 1920.

There were many more recent but just as well loved photos of Egloskerry Revels, school fetes, Comic Relief events, playgroup pantomimes, and duck races.

The village hall committee supplied and served the homemade cakes, tea and coffee and people dropped in throughout the morning to chat, reminisce and enjoy the many photos that had been brought in, followed by refreshments. Egloskerry Quilters, Phyll Aldridge, Ruby Batt, Dawn Fenn, Sheila Glenn, Brenda Holloway, Ann Pennington, and Anita Surridge, had made and generously donated a beautiful patchwork quilt to Egloskerry Hall funds and raffle tickets had been on sale since May.

The draw for the quilt was made at the end of the morning by Margaret Francis, and the committee was delighted to hear that the sale of tickets had raised £600 for the hall.

Refreshments made £120 and everyone agreed it had been a most enjoyable event.
