THIS season has seen some big cup wins for North Petherwin but it did not take long for it to become obvious that it would not be the case against a very good passing side who are likely contenders for promotion from Division Two.
The home side struck quickly through Jason Ames and Ian McKellar before Petherwin were dealt a harsh blow with the referee confusing the defence trying to sort a wall while Shaun German took advantage and stroked the ball into a gaping net leaving Adam Cripps who made some good stops no chance. Ames added another to make it 4-nil at the break.
With the game essentially killed off, the visitors showed good character and made a real contest of the second half and made chances but with Phillips having a stormer in goal and Andi Sleeman's shooting boots being tied together it was not quite coming until a superb strike from Chris Riorden to the top corner.
There were a few positives to take from the match and the Reeve brothers especially ran the wings well in the second period but the real harsh blow was the injury to Chris Thompson who fractured his ankle turning on the sticky surface so he is wished a swift recovery.
