OVER 500 young people from five local schools were involved in the North Cornwall Youth Games at Launceston College on Wednesday April 1.

The event kicked off at 2.00pm with the welcome and introduction by Rob Francis, competition manager. Current British Mountain Bike Half Marathon Champion, Jodie Vickery was in attendance, running the Go Ride Mountain Bike event and she also presented the medals in the closing ceremony.

Throughout the afternoon pupils from the five schools and from four year groups, battled it out across 15 different events. These events included Go Ride Mountain Biking, Street Surfing, Rowing, Golf Extreme, Dance, Gym and Futsal.

Rob Francis, competition manager, said "The atmosphere throughout the afternoon was incredible; we had teams cheering on their school counterparts and really enjoying themselves. Each event was keenly contested and every school walked away having won at least one event."

Michelle Roberts, PDM for the Callington School Sport Partnership, said, "This is the first year the games have run here at Launceston College and it was terrific, the school site was perfect. Following last year's success, we continued with the ethos of the games to target 'semi sporty' pupils who may be interested in a range of non traditional sports."

Callington School Sport Partnership wishes to thank Launceston College and all its staff as well as all of the coaches and deliverers that helped in making this event such a success.
