NORTH Cornwall Open Awards Centre were pleased to host their second awards evening at the Orchard Centre in Launceston and to be joined by town crier, Rob Tremain, who again presented the awards to the participants.
The bronze and silver teams all successfully completed their expeditions in the summer and the whole thing was made possible by support from the Freemasons at the King Arthur Lodge, Tintagel, who kindly donated the funds to pay for the minibus, fuel and campsite fees for the silver group to travel to the New Forest, and Tim from Launceston Car Hire who assisted with his generous help with the hire of the minibus.
The group is grateful to the Cornwall Foundation for the iWill grant that enabled them to purchase such great kit and cover other expenses.
The groups are going to continue to their next levels and the team are ‘really proud’ of their achievements, especially as some were in the middle of their GCSE year.
As a small group, they were able to tailor the practice and assessed expeditions around their exam dates and the assessed one took place a few days after their final exam. They have all learnt such a lot about teamwork and gained new skills, and the silver team have now committed almost two years to the DofE award scheme.
Co-ordinator Pat Orridge said: “We have a great, but small, band of volunteers who are now qualified to take the expeditions themselves and along with such supportive parents, it has been a real pleasure to have worked with them to help their youngsters achieve their awards.”
