A NEW working group has been created to oversee phase two of the Old Cattle Market cafe, shop and youth facilities in Camelford.

A strategic visioning working group was created at the meeting of Camelford Town Council on Tuesday, March 19, accompanied by further discussions regarding phase two of the cafe, shop and youth facilities to be located on the Old Cattle Market site (OCM), which also introduced a brand new skatepark last year.

Clerk, Esther Grieg, said: “This (working group) is to see us through the next couple of months.”

Cllr Andy Shaw was reluctant to adopt another working group, telling the meeting: “I think the working group work fairly well. I have got reservations on this matter.”

Ms Grieg said: “We have got to look at whether we run the cafe or if we rent it out.”

Cllr Shaw said he thought the cafe should be hired out to another business. The terms of reference of a new working group were supported, proposed by Cllr Stephen Bond and seconded by Cllr Lauren Rathbone, with the vote being unanimous.

Cllrs Claire Hewlett, Rathbone, Shaw, Michael Coombes and Alan Burgis nominated themselves to make up the new group, with Cllr Shaw saying: “You need someone with a different point of view, and that’s what I’ll be there to do.”

Cllr Hewlett replied: “You are, with the greatest of respect, one voice.”

Ms Grieg added: “It’s just to get it started and to throw out all the ideas.”
