TWO seemingly contradictory reports on the possible impact of a new Tesco store on Bude town centre will go before Cornwall planners next Thursday.

Catesby Property Group plc want to develop land at Binhamy Farm to provide a new mixed use development including a 3,719 sq metre supermarket to be occupied by Tesco.

A report commissioned by the supermarket giant concludes: "It has been demonstrated that the proposed development will not have a significant adverse impact on existing or future town centre investment."

However, an independent report commissioned by Cornwall Council concludes: "It is our view that the centre will experience an adverse impact, taking into account the financial impact of the proposal, the effect on choice and competition and the effect on town centre vitality."
