THE trustees of Coronation Park were delighted when two new sets of swings were installed in the park recently.

The old swing units were showing signs of decay back in the spring, so the trustees agreed that rather than allow them to decay further and possibly cause injury to users, new swing units needed to be ordered and installed.

The Coronation Park Trust is responsible for the day to day running of the park along with its infrastructure.

Dave Gordon, chairman of the trustees, told the Post: “We are delighted to have these new swing units installed, with this being the second major purchase of play equipment we have done in the past 18 months”.

“We take the condition of the play equipment very seriously at Coronation Park, and we are regularly looking into the park’s infrastructure to see if things need replacing or improving. These new swings will hopefully last at least 20 years”.

“Any profits from the annual firework display held in the park each November, is a direct result of how we are able to fund this costly replacement, and how we will be able to replace future items of play when they fail the safety check”.

This year’s annual firework display will take place on Friday, November 4, and will be fired by a Pyrotechnic company for the first time since the display moved to Coronation Park.

The trustees would like to hear from anyone who attends this year’s display, to tell them if they think the new method of display is preferred to the previous method of firing the fireworks.

All spectators will be required to view the display in the lower area of the park as the pyrotechnic company will not permit spectators in the higher Windmill area.

Family tickets are available now from the Tourist Information Centre in the White Hart Arcade priced £12.50, or on the gates at £5 for an adult and £2.50 per child.
