ROCK-based Sharp’s Brewery is proud to support a number of local rowing clubs via its flagship ale brand, Doom Bar, through a series of sponsorships and donations.
The brewery team, which is proud to be based in Cornwall, is pleased to announce another year of sponsorship of its most local club, Rock Rowing Club (pictured).
It has recently funded the creation of a set of beautiful rowing oars made by highly respected local craftsman Andrew Nancarrow from Bissoe. Andrew has built and restored many gigs over the years as well as being a talented rower himself.
Port Isaac Rowing Club was pleased to receive £500 towards new jackets and will receive a new gig cover adorned with Doom Bar branding later in the year.
The vice chair of Rock Rowing Club, Lucy Dove, said: “On behalf of all of our members, I would like to say that we are delighted with our new Doom Bar branded oars, they are beautiful and we’re very grateful for the support of our neighbours, Sharp’s Brewery! I know that the teams are very keen to get out and use them for the first time!”
James Nicholls, marketing controller at Sharp’s Brewery, said: “Being surrounded by beautiful coastline, rowing is such an important sport in Cornwall. We’re delighted to be able to support such dedicated local clubs which often act as the focal point of the communities they are based in. We look forward to seeing Rock’s oars in action!”
Rowing is strongly embedded in Cornish culture which is unsurprising given the county’s extensive rives, lakes and coastline. Cornwall boasts 49 clubs, the most of any county outside of London.
The largest event on the rowing calendar is, of course, the World Pilot Gig Championships which take place every year on the Isles of Scilly.
Sharp’s Brewery is a dedicated sponsor to several Cornish community sporting teams and organisations and is also the very proud sponsor of eight grassroots rugby clubs around the county.
