MR Gonella, head of juniors, was delighted to start the new academic year by announcing positions of responsibility for some Year 6 pupils.
Each pupil in St Joseph’s Junior School belongs to a house, which is something in which they take great pride.
Inter-house competitions are fiercely competitive events, and contested in the very best of spirits. Announcing new house captains is an important moment in the life of the school as year six pupils take on additional responsibility and show just how they have matured to take on the role through their time in the caring environment of St Joseph’s.
This year’s house captain for St Thomas’ is Katie Heard, for St Catherine’s it is Phoebe Scott, for St Michael’s it is Ollie Goodwin and for St Dominic’s it is Liam Brent. All four are excited at the prospect of being given the opportunity to lead their house to victory at events throughout the year, and aim to be able to collect the prestigious House Cup at Prize Giving in June 2017.
This is a celebration of the many successes St Joseph’s pupils achieve throughout the year held in the surrounds of Launceston Town Hall, now home to St Joseph’s Junior Prize Giving.
The Junior School’s numbers have outgrown the school hall for this event.
In addition to these positions, Mr Gonella put an end to the anxious wait of many pupils in announcing who would take on the positions of head and deputy head pupils. From an outstanding field of candidates, Mr Gonella and his staff selected Harvey Holmes and Nell Murray as junior deputy head pupils, and they will represent the juniors at school events and be excellent role models for the younger pupils.
The position of junior head boy went to Eddie Gruzdev and that of junior head girl to Lottie Wilson. On their selection they said: “We were both very surprised but proud to be chosen to be junior head boy and girl. Our feet were like jelly when we walked out to get our badges in assembly. There will be many different things we will be called upon to do, but we are looking forward to the challenge and working closely with our deputies. We are especially looking forward to being tour guides for visiting parents. The highlight of our year will be our speeches at the Junior Prize Giving in June. Look out for our regular termly blogs.”
