NEW recruits have hit Launceston police!
The Lions Club of Launceston made a surprise visit to the police station to deliver special gifts recently.
Through a close working relationship and awareness of officers often dealing with young people in difficult and upsetting circumstances, members of the Launceston Lions Club have donated a number of these lovely teddies to be used by local officers.
It has been proven that the introduction of cuddly toys — known as ‘trauma teds’ — to young people who have been involved or exposed to traumatic circumstances, greatly assists their ability to deal with the situation and promote a faster recovery.
Sergeant Aaron Ward, pictured with the Lions members and the teddies, said: “This is a very positive and heart warming gesture by the Lions, who carry out a great deal of community work within Launceston. An aspect of our force mission is to protect the vulnerable and the use of these enhances that in a very human way. A massive thank you is extended to the Lions by Launceston policing team.”
Local officers will be taking these new recruits out on patrol to assist them very soon.
