THE future of the Camelfordian newsletter is safe, after the committee found another outlet to print the publication.
The town newsletter has, in the past, been printed by Sir James Smith’s Community School, but recently the school decided to cease all community printing jobs.
At the recent meeting of Camelford Town Council, Camelfordian editor, Diane Taylor, told councillors they had secured a slot at a printers near Bude, at a discounted rate.
The price would be set on a two year sliding rate, with the price in month one for example, having a 46% discount, sliding to the committee eventually paying the full price.
Diane said the publication had been printed at the new location last month and she said the finished product was ‘beautiful.’
A letter has been sent to all advertisers to explain the situation faced by the committee, and to inform them of a planned price increase to cover the new printing charges.
“It’s just a question if waiting to see if advertisers stay with us. If they don’t then frankly I don’t know what we’re going to do.”
Diane asked whether the council could help, possibly by paying a special set rate for its page in the Camelfordian.
She told that council that a number of other local publications are affected by the school’s withdrawal, adding: “It sounds as if there are several that are going to close and I think it would be a tragedy.”
Mayor, Cllr Rob Rotchell said: “We know the importance of keeping the Camelfordian going. In terms of how we react to that should be an agenda item. You’re doing a great job. We were delighted when we heard there was a way forward. We will review our position at the next meeting.”
