HOLSWORTHY and District Lions have elected a new president — carrying on with the trend of recent years that each president serves for only one year. At their business meeting last Thursday, outgoing president Ray Fursdon handed over the chain of office to the new president, Richard Hutchings. Ray thanked club members for their support over the past year and wished Richard success in his new role. Richard thanked, on behalf of the whole club, Ray for all his hard work over the last 12 months — a period that has seen the club grow and move from strength to strength. Ray's last task before handing over to Richard was to present a cheque for £100 to the Bude Canal Trust. The trust is a charity established in 1996 specifically to take over ownership of the five-mile length of the aqueduct branch of the canal from Tamar Lake to half a mile or so beyond Burmsdon Bridge.
