Dear Editor,
I attended the Ross-on-Wye voting station on May 7th to cast my vote, using one of the new-style voting booths.
I was shocked to realise that the wide triangular design makes it easy for other voters, or indeed the staff, to see how people vote. As voters stand in the middle of the booth, there is an open space each side where they need to place their voting cards, which being exposed, can be easily seen by others.
The design of the old-style booths enclosed voters on both sides, making it impossible for others to see how they voted. I raised this with the staff at the polling station, but they were either unwilling or unable to do anything about it. If we are serious about secret ballots, the staff should be willing to do something about it immediately and not pass it off with a shrug of the shoulders.
