THE Crackington Choristers held a meeting recently at Brockhill Chapel. Due to the sad and untimely death of their Musical Director Elizabeth (Buffy) Wade it was agreed a committee should be formed to carry on the work of the choir as Buffy would have wanted them to do. A minute's silence was observed in memory of Buffy.

Nicholas Danks, the Choristers' new Musical Director, introduced himself to the choir and gave a resume of his career up to date. He comes from a family of professional musicians and plays the organ, cello and piano. He was previously the assistant organist of St Martins in the Fields in London for five years and then became Director of Music for seven years. He was appointed Director of Music at Corpus Christi College in Cambridge (his old college) last September.

He moved to Camelford in November 2008 and has happily agreed to teach the Crackington Choristers on Monday evenings. He knew Buffy and wishes to build on what she had achieved, hopefully bringing a new dimension to the choir. He also added that conducting was his first love and he would continue to ensure the music would be fun and enjoyable at all levels.

The first practice was held at Brockhill Chapel on Monday, February 16 to an extremely good turnout. Nick took the group through a series of exercises and they also performed several songs in their present repertoire.

Choristers member Audrey Short said: "It is clear that Nick will strive to attain a high standard of performance and hopefully the choir will go on from strength to strength."
