THE newly refurbished old schoolrooms in Tintagel has generated huge interest since it reopened last week.

The old schoolrooms were closed to the public for some years after the building fell into disrepair. Following a seven-month refurbishment by local builder George Knight and Son the doors were officially opened by the Bishop of St Germans, the Rt Rev Christopher Goldsmith on Tuesday, April 21.

The building was last used as a school during the 1940s and was opened especially to cater for the large number of evacuees during World War Two. It was then closed and sold to the church after a new primary school was built on the outskirts of the village.

The renovation was funded by the sale of the nearby old schoolmaster's house and now has a kitchen, toilets and meeting room.

The Rev Michael Parsons, priest-in-charge at Tintagel, said the schoolrooms will provide a place for people to go that is in the heart of the village.
