CORNWALL is to receive £850,000 from the Coalition Government to help schools build new kitchens.
The money will allow local schools to improve existing kitchen facilities, or build new kitchens where they are needed, and will come from the £150-million the Government set aside to help schools build the facilities required to give every infant school pupil a free school meal.
Deputy Prime Minister and Liberal Democrat Leader Nick Clegg announced in September that the Coalition Government would provide all infant school children with a free, hot school meal at lunchtimes.
The Government also announced that Cornwall is to receive £32-million over the next three years to provide extra school places in areas where there is high demand. This could be by expanding existing schools or building new schools if there is demand for it.
