Holsworthy Community College has recently started its own gymnastics club.
The need for an after school gymnastics club was identified by Miss Goldsworthy and Head of PE Mr Gascgoyne, so on Wednesday evenings at Holsworthy Leisure Centre, the surrounding primary schools meet from 3:50pm to 4:50pm and the secondary school children train from 4:50pm till 5:50pm.
The club has only been going for a matter of weeks, and has already had over 70 children attend the sessions.
British Gymnastic coaches Joanne South and Jackie Priest lead the
sessions, supported by Year 10 community college pupils Lisa Priest and Rebecca Priest, both newly qualified assistant gymnastic coaches.
In a letter to Holsworthy Town Council Joanne said: "It is our aim to make Holsworthy Gymnastics Club an outstanding success. We know if we can get the correct backing and financial support from companies and individuals we can achieve this, as we have so much support already from parents and the school.
"To do this we need to improve and extend our existing equipment. Please can you help us and be part of the future of this new, exciting club for Holsworthy."
Unfortunately, the council were not able to provide any financial support as they had already allocated their grants for this year. They suggested Joanne and Jackie submit a request for a grant for 2010/2011.
The town council however, wished to convey its support to the club and said: "Activities where young people are able to enhance their physical well being, learn new skills and encounter new experiences within a safe and controlled environment, can only be advantageous."
If anyone can help the club in any way please contact Jackie on 01409 261673.
