BOSCASTLE’S Museum of Witchcraft has recently been undergoing some major refurbishments during the winter’s ‘closed’ season.

Now, a completely re-displayed upper gallery, exploring the magical landscape of Cornwall with piskies, is new for 2016. Goddesses, stone circles, fogous and the Horned God are all presented within this fascinating new gallery.

Judith Hewitt, co-manager, said: “The museum has been in Boscastle since 1960, and we get lots of repeat visitors, so we like to keep things fresh. We also acquire new objects every year, and we try to have as many objects on display as we can, so we are always changing and adapting our displays.

“It is presented as being like a forest at night time, a world of spirits and imagination. It also brings together many of the objects that were previously displayed in this area, but in a completely new and coherent way. So far, our visitors really like it.”

Last year, the museum had its first temporary exhibition, and this area changes each year. For 2016, the exhibition is called Glitter and Gravedust: Halloween Past and Present.

Judith added: “Many people associate Halloween with witchcraft and magic, but they don’t really know why. This exhibition looks at all aspects of October 31, including foods, costumes, history, religion, films and television. There really is something for everyone.”

The museum is open every day until October 31. Monday to Saturday, open from 10.30am until 6pm, and on Sundays 11.30am until 6pm.
