THE people of Altarnun came together last week to hold a charity lunch to raise money for the replacement of the organ in St Nonna’s church.
The current church organ is of Victorian origin, and was second-hand when it was installed in 1956.
The organ has served the church well, performing for over 60 years. However, the organ is now failing, and is in need or urgent replacement.
Luckily, a replacement organ has been found, and with the right developments, it should last the church another 100 years.
However, the replacement and maintenance costs don’t come cheap, taking professional organ builders around three months to assemble hundreds of components, and adding up to around £35,000.
Now, St Nonna’s church is urging members of the community to help give the church a musical voice for the next four generations.
Donations can be made by visiting St Nonna’s church, or by putting donations in the Organ Appeal tin at the village Post Office and shop.
