The Annual General Meeting of the Camelford Branch of the Royal British Legion was held on November 11. The meeting was chaired by Mrs Lesley Valentine, who thanked the members for a good year. She said that it has been an up and down year with the sad loss of four of the branch's members and the posting of the Chaplain Rev Stella Long. She continued to say that the branch had been involved with many activities and parades, ranging from its 10th birthday fete to the Battle of Britain parade at Kilkhampton in the north to the County Rally in the south. She hoped that the next year will be even better than this past year. During the meeting she presented the new Chaplain, Rev Jim Benton-Evans, with the branch prayer scarf, saying that although he has been for the past couple of months acting as their chaplain, she was pleased to welcome him into their legion community. Rev Benton-Evans thanked the branch for honouring him with the chaplaincy and said that he accepted it for himself and his grandfather who is in his nineties and was a prisoner of war of the Japanese during the Second World War.
