WITH an aim of brightening up the main bus stop in Holsworthy, town councillors discussed which images they would like to display on four boards to be sited in the shelter on Wednesday, February 13, during the full council meeting.

Mayor Cllr Jon Hutchings said the project had been carried over from last year and was nearing the final stages with only the images chosen needing councillors’ approval. He said: “This project was on last year’s budget and we have carried it through. We want four pictures to be displayed in the shelter and the idea is to just brighten it up a bit!”

Cllr Hutchings then ran through the ideas for each of the panels: “One idea is to have a map created by the Holsworthy Engagement Group that displays the town with local points of interest on it like every club and organisation.

“The other idea is to have a picture of the St Peter’s Fair with maybe one of the Pretty Maids in the corner, another with a picture of the square with the market and an old picture of the original market in the corner and maybe something from the park with the pavilion in it — just images that really represent the town as a whole.”

He added that the boards would be A0 size and would be made ‘vandal proof’.

The councillors were all keen on these ideas but Cllr Pete Shepherd added: “On the map would you have the list of places categorised by like leisure, sport etc.?”

The mayor confirmed the map being shown around was for example purposes only and wouldn’t be the final map used.

Cllr Joanne Heaven added in jest: “So there will be other pubs on the map other that the White Hart?”

Owner of the White Hart Cllr Hutchings said the points on the engagement group’s map were meeting points for the group, but assured those featured on the real map would have fair representation.

Town clerk Vanessa Saunders suggested they didn’t want the map to be too detailed though: “Maybe we could just have main parts like ‘shopping area’ and industrial estate, library and doctors.”

Councillors agreed this was a fair idea and although no proposer and seconder was required, all gave their support for the idea.
