THE members of Holsworthy Hamlets Parish Council were delighted to dedicate a new bench in memory of Cllr Des Shadrick in a short ceremony on Tuesday, September 25.
The new bench was placed in the courtyard of the AgriBusiness Centre in Holsworthy on a beautiful sunny afternoon.
Attending were members of Cllr Shadrick’s family as well as both past and present parish councillors, including councillors who had served alongside Cllr Shadrick on the parish council.
The chairman of the parish council, Cllr Ray Fursdon, opened the proceedings and explained the history behind the council’s presentation of the memorial bench.
Mr David Kivell then spoke about Cllr Shadrick himself, how he had always championed Holsworthy and stated that it was unlikely that the livestock market would be where it is now without his contribution.
The plaque on the memorial bench is inscribed as follows: ‘Presented by Holsworthy Hamlets Parish Council in memory of: Cllr Des Shadrick, 1942-2009, Whose vision and foresight helped create this AgriBusiness Centre.’
