WHILE September 6 was the beginning of the school year for Altarnun Primary School children, it was also the start of a new position for Mrs Katie Dalton as acting principal.
Mrs Dalton, who was previously the head of school at the ‘outstanding’ Bishop Bronescombe Primary School in Cornwall, met with parents at her new school during the summer term at their recent school fayre — a successful joint venture between Friends of Altarnun School Association and staff.
Mrs Heidi Hoskin, executive principal at Adventure Learning Academy Trust (ALAT), the multi-academy trust that runs Altarnun Primary School, said: “We are delighted that we have been able to select a candidate of Katie’s capability and experience to lead the primary school.
“Katie joins us from Bishop Bronescombe Primary School, which has an enviable reputation within Cornwall. Katie has been a senior leader for over eight years now, and therefore brings a vast amount of experience and knowledge to the role.”
Mrs Dalton said: “After visiting Altarnun, meeting the staff and listening to them talk so enthusiastically about the school and community, I am convinced that the dedicated staff and pupils have a growing pride in their school.
“It is inspiring to see the strong support from the parent community. The needs of the children will always come first and I will work tirelessly to ensure all children in my care, my colleagues and the school community get the very best education, nurture and support that I can provide.
“I believe that good relationships are the basis of a successful school community, and these are beginning to form already. The school has already begun its upward journey and I am excited to be leading it forward.”
