A LAUNCESTON man has branded "negligent" the council's attitude towards wheelchair users in the town, following an incident which left him twice hospitalised.

Mr W J C Harnell fell out of his electric wheelchair around a fortnight ago at the exit of Sanford Timewells Lane, which connects High Street to Castle Dyke.

In attempting to turn up the hill towards the Co-operative, where he was heading, Mr Harnell slipped off of the pavement and into the road, hitting his head on the floor and damaging his shoulder in the process.

He was lucky, he said, not to have suffered further injuries as a result of either his wheelchair — a very heavy piece of equipment — landing on him or a car hitting him after he fell.
