PLANS for a village inn, post office, shop and community hall at Boyton will be considered by North Cornwall District Council's Planning and Development Committee on Tuesday, March 3.

The application, submitted by Mr Lindsay Ellacott, is being brought to committee for determination given the "extensive public interest both for and against the scheme."

As well as a single building which would comprise a community hall, shop, post office, public house, restaurant and manager's accommodation, the plans also include a parking area to the north, south and west of the building.

Boyton Parish Council have supported the application, along with T Hopper of the Civic Society who stated: "The proposed development offers valuable services to a rural area."

A number of letters of support have been received by the council, however several more letters have been sent objecting to the plans.

In a report prepared for next week's meeting the case officer, Simon King questions the viability of the scheme and he also believed that the development would have "an unacceptable impact on the character of the area."

He has recommended the application for refusal, stating: "The scale of the proposed facility and its location is unrelated to the needs of the locality and is inconveniently located to serve the local

population."
