THE RSPCA is appealing for information after three degus were found illegally abandoned on an island in a park in Camelford. A concerned member of the public rang the RSPCA on May 1 after spotting the degus on the island near the town's Market Place. The island they were found on is surrounded by deep water and it is not known how they arrived there. RSPCA animal welfare officer Felicity Cross left humane traps for the three degus but sadly they could not cope in the environment and they all died. Rescue operations were limited due to the difficult location of the island and the fact there were nesting birds on the island.
