MUSIC rang out from St Breward Church on Saturday, May 20 — a concert featuring The Allen Valley Singers was the main event, writes Catherine McShee.
The first half saw the ladies sing a variety of songs and this was followed by Mr Dick Man reciting some of his own evocative poems. Then the audience was treated to the first public performance of Roxy Moran from Camelford who sang two songs made famous by Adele and Duffy — what a star in the making, I am sure she will be asked to sing again.
This was followed by The St Breward Handbell Ringers who played three tunes finishing with ‘Little Brown Jug’. For the second half The Allen Valley Singers sang again and their repertoire included a moving rendition of ‘You Raise Me Up’, and finished with ‘Skyfall’ from James Bond. An unexpected treat brought the evening to a close with Steve Tyrell, the accompanist for the choir, playing a wonderful, haunting tune on the keyboard.
Canon Sherry Bryan then thanked all who took part, the raffle was drawn and the refreshments were served. Lots of chatter then ensued before people drifted off home on a lovely May evening.
A total of £223.46 was raised for The Friends of St Breward Church.
