HUNDREDS of 'gunk pots' have been given to Bude students, helping them towards their Cleaner Seas campaign. Every year millions of pounds are spent unblocking drains that have become clogged by congealed fats, oils and grease from cooking. Blocked drains can cause sewers to overflow and pollute water courses. With help from Bude Cleaner Seas Project, MP for North Cornwall and Water Minister Liberal Democrat Dan Rogerson handed over 400 gunk pots to students of Budehaven Community School recently. The gunk pots, provided free by South West Water, are designed to hold cooled fats, oils and grease used in cooking. When full, the contents can be emptied into a bin for disposal and the gunk pot reused. Representatives from Budehaven Community School's Student Parliament have pledged their support to the Cleaner Seas Project, which reduces the pollution of bathing water from a range of sources.
