NORTH Cornwall’s Conservative MP Scott Mann met with staff and residents of a care home recently to understand the challenges they face.
The Post has previously reported that Highermead care home, situated in College Road, Camelford, was rated as ‘inadequate’ overall by the Care Quality Commission (CQC), during an unannounced inspection in October.
Mr Mann said: “It can be difficult to recruit and retain staff, particularly as they can be tempted away by higher paying work in our seasonal economy. We also discussed other issues and challenges, particularly road access for emergency vehicles and the local authority commissioning processes.
“These points are ones that I hope to help with and will aim for positive outcomes. I hope to visit again later in the year to see the positive changes that have been made, which hopefully will result in an improved CQC assessment.”
