BUDE Motor Club is holding its eighth annual show on Sunday, May 15, at the town’s rugby club.
The club was established in 2002 and has over 100 members. It meets regularly every month and started doing an annual show — called the Bude Classic in 2009.
Since then, the show has gone from strength to strength and was renamed a couple of years ago to the Bude Motor & Classic Show, to reflect the fact that it is not just a classic car show, but a show for all types of vehicles of all different ages.
Last year’s show was an outstanding success, with over 400 vehicles on display and the show was enjoyed by hundreds of visitors throughout the day.
The show is a free event with the aim of raising money via donations from visitors and exhibitors, for the club’s chosen annual charity.
The club covers the cost of putting on the show with the sponsorship of local businesses.
Last year’s charity was Bude Memory Café — a charity which was started four years ago by a cross section of volunteers to help sufferers of Alzheimer’s and memory loss stimulate their memory by singing, dancing, doing quizzes and other activities like pottery and crafts and by having day trips out.
Charitable donations from the show raised a magnificent £1,800 for the café.
This year, the club has chosen Bude Surf Life Saving Club as its chosen charity.
Bude Surf Life Saving Club provides a voluntary service to the public and assists professional lifeguards throughout the summer season.
Active members learn and teach surf life saving techniques and provide training for most of the professional lifeguards in the North Cornwall area.
They patrol local beaches providing extra safety cover and informing the public about beach safety.
They also have opportunities to gain internationally recognised surf life saving qualifications and compete at events.
Today, more than 60 years on from when it was first created, Bude Surf Life Saving Club has logged well over a thousand rescues and numerous more preventative actions and throughout its history, the club has been completely self-financing.
Bude Motor Club is hoping that this year’s event will be just as successful as last year and hope they can raise just as much money as they did last year too.
Anyone who has a vehicle that is classic, interesting or just simply a bit different, is welcome to bring it along to the show to display for the day.
As well as the many vehicles that will be on display, there will also be stalls and exhibition stands, live music and food and refreshments available throughout the day.
