A TEAM from St Marks C of E School, Morwenstow, were triumphant in winning the Rotary Youth Speaks Junior competition overall at Paignton on Saturday, March 10.

This followed previous successes in both the local and area competitions, and on the day their speaker Olivia Sellars won the prize for best speaker of the afternoon.

Chris Cloke, vocational chair for the Rotary Club of Bude, who said the club was delighted with the pupils’ achievement, said: “Congratulations to St Marks and all the staff and parents supporting them. We are constantly trying to promote Youth Speaks, which is an important skill for the children’s future.

“The competition is run annually and all schools in the local area are invited to participate.

“Unfortunately very few schools take up this opportunity and we would like to encourage them to be involved next year.”

The winning team were Chloe Collett, Olivia Sellars, and Ellie Hodgson (who substituted for Joshua Crooks, the previous chairperson who was unable to attend).
