Launceston Seniors team travelled to St Enodoc on Monday March 30.

Away from their familiar parkland course and destined for the coastline links of St Enodoc confidence was bound to be low especially remembering the 6-2 defeat last year. Full credit to the team however as their 5-3 win reversed the result from 2007. Captain Robin missed out making it even better by 4 putting on the 16th leading to a loss, and Morley atoned for his defeat with partner Don by getting deserved laughter for his after dinner joke.

Results: Robin Johnson (cpt) & Dave Harding lost 1 down; Chris Sandercock & Peter Holland halved; Brian Alford & Gerald Cramp (V/Cpt) halved; Jim Manson & Graham Chanter won 4&2; Morley Brown & Don Slee lost 2&1; Paul Roach & Neville Helme won 3&2; Derek Ratcliffe & Peter Jones (Sec) won 1 up; Derek Davey & Terry Swords won 2 up.

76 Seniors played in a full handicap qualifying stableford competition on Tuesday the 31st.

This was played in three divisions with one prize per division but there were also five prizes for blind drawn pairs. Having to wait for the final group, before the draw could take place, again put pressure on the adjudicators and delayed the results somewhat.

Excellent weather and course conditions led to good scores with Brian Johns leading the way with 42 points, a few more rounds like this and he will have to play in Division 1. Division III handicaps now have a maximum of 40 for Tuesday competitions only, due to a controversial system introduced by the Captain.

Results

Division I (0-14): Peter Wall 37.

Division II (15-19): Brian Johns 42.

Division III (20-40): Brian Roberts 39.

Blind pairs: 1st, Peter Holland & Cyril Warne 74; 2nd, Brian White & Dave Reynolds 73; 3rd, John Mullins & Glen Timmins 72; 4th, Roy Davis & Robert Loughran 71; 5th, Steve Lawrence & David Napier 71.

Well done Vice-Captain Gerald, taking the Launceston Seniors team to Trevose on April 2 he came away with a halved match.

Leading the way with partner Rodney they achieved a good win as did two other pairs, in fact the only pairs to lose included single figure handicappers, this must tell you something about senior level golf.

This brings Launceston's away record this season to won 2, drawn 1, lost 3 not a bad start for 2009.

Results: Gerald Cramp (V/Cpt) & Rodney Duke won 3&2; Brian Ben-David & Tim Johnson won 3&2; Mike Gee & Tony Bowden lost 3&1; Robert Loughran & Dave Bundy halved; Colin Butler & Terry Swords won 2&1; Derek Ratcliffe & Pat Johnston halved; John Mullins & Don Slee lost 4&3; Rex Haythornthwaite & Richard Dudley lost 2&1.

Culminating a busy week the Seniors' team were at home to Bude on the 3rd.

Captain Robin again demonstrated his lack of killer instinct, having been 4 up with a few holes to play at Bude he lost, this time despite being 4 up with less holes to play he could only manage a half. The weather was excellent as it had been all week and the day finished with well appreciated food from the new caterers dealing with their first seniors' home match of the season.

Results: Robin Johnson (Cpt) & Terry Swords halved; Brian Alford & Colin Butler won 1up; Derek Davey & Tim Johnson lost 4&3; Derek Ratcliffe & Ken Rogers won 2up; Mike Gee & Gerald Cramp (V/Cpt) won 4&3; John Mullins & Neville Helme on 3&2; Brian Ben-David & Dave Harding won 1up; Tony Bowden & Don Slee lost 4&3.
