THE first live music performance for many years was recently held at St Catherine’s, Temple Church.

A wonderful evening’s entertainment was provided by West Wind Quintet who played to a sold out venue with over 70 in attendance.

The wind quintet which included a horn, flute, oboe, clarinet and bassoon were led by Janie and Mark Andrews from Treswigga Farm in Blisland.

As well as classical music for a wind ensemble the group also played a range of contemporary pieces including Fly me to the Moon by Bart Howard.

Each element was introduced by one of the group members adding greatly to the interpretation of the music.

Two local youngsters Tom and Mair, performing as the ‘Young Templars’, played their instruments for the audience as they arrived.

The event raised more than £500 for the church roof fund with an additional donation of £200 taking the funds raised to over £700 on the evening.

Karen Dickin, chairman of the community group which has organised the events programme, said: “We are very grateful to West Wind for the wonderful evening’s music which has drawn such a good attendance.

“The funds raised will go towards the repairs to the roof and we are now just short of our original target for the project.”

The Parochial Church Council for Blisland has commenced works to survey the church for bats and architects are in the process of being engaged to take the project forward.
