THIRTY-TWO army cadets from Holsworthy were joined recently by nine cadets from the Great Torrington detachment for the annual weekend exercise challenge.
The event, named ‘Operation: Ground Domination’, consisted of three phases offering different challenges or opportunities to learn, develop and practice both military and adventure training skills.
‘Phase 1’ was an evening laser game session run by Survival Combat Games in Torrington in which two sections of cadets had to compete to outwit each other using fieldcraft skills team work and tactics.
‘Phase 2’ took place around Torrington Commons with a non-competitive opportunity to develop map reading and navigation skills.
‘Phase 3’ consisted of a shooting competition firing air rifles and .22 on the Great Torrington detachment ranges.
Section two were overall victors and cadet Lydia Girdler from Holsworthy got the best rifle score with Sjt Lobb from Great Torrington getting the best .22 score.
The event finished with a barbecue and presentation of medals.
Exercise director and Holsworthy detachment commander Lt Jim Harvey said of the event: “It has been a great success with cadets at all levels not only enjoying it but developing their training skills.
“I would like to thank Survival Combat Games for providing an exciting and challenging bespoke activity and special thanks to Lt Matthew Sanders and Sjt Major Trevor Goaman of Great Torrington detachment and of course my own detachment adult team for making this event happen for the cadets.”
