Concern Wadebridge at The John Betjeman Centre was full of festive cheer on Friday when it hosted a special party.

More then 100 attended a party for the lonely, elderly and vulnerable in Wadebridge which included free food, refreshments, live music from Alan Steele, Elliot Osborne and Wadebridge Male Voice Choir and a huge raffle.

The event was sponsored by Wadebridge Lions, The Rotary Club of Wadebridge and Camel Glass.

Food and raffle prizes were donated by: William and Sons Butchers, Chadds of Bude, Total Produce Bodmin, Wadebridge Tesco, Roddas, Cornish Cooker Conversations Ltd, members of Wadebridge Tennis Club, Heather Keightley, as well as many wonderful donations from the residents of Wadebridge and customers of the centre.

Concern Wadebridge manager Emma Burt said: “We have been overwhelmed by the generosity of Wadebridge residents and local businesses supporting this annual event. In previous years we have hosted about 60 people so it was lovely to be able to help so many more this year, especially when times are so hard.

“Thank you also to my wonderful staff and volunteers who worked so hard in the lead up and on the day to make it a special event for everyone. Nobody went home hungry thanks to all the food and treats we were able to serve.

“This party has been a wonderful way to end the year – thank you to everyone for their ongoing support in 2023 – helping our small charity to serve the community.”

The centre will now be closed until Tuesday, January 3, 2023. For more information about the centre and its activities visit www.concernwadebridge.org.uk or call 01208 812392 in the New Year.
