OVER the last year, Freewave Surf Academy have raised £330 for local charity, Jay’s AIM.

The Bude-based charity have been a major driving force in supplying defibrillators in the local area, as well as putting on life saving workshops for people.

Jay’s AIM was established with the target of reducing the rate of sudden cardiac death among young people in the South West and have so far managed to install 70 defibrillators and train over 3,600 young people in CPR

After receiving the total from the business, Dan Osborne from Jay’s AIM had nothing but thanks for the fundraising efforts over the past 12-months. He said: “We are massively grateful of the support we have received throughout the last year from Robin and the team at Freewave Surf Academy. The last 18 months has been a particularly difficult time for everyone, including charities, so to receive this extra funding is a brilliant thing.

“Robin also runs Freewave First Aid and Lifeguard training and was going to be helping us at our Bude heart screening session, for up to 200 young people, which unfortunately had to be postponed last summer. We are pleased to say this has now been rescheduled for Easter 2022 and Robin has already promised to be there to offer his expertise.”

Dan added: “The money that businesses such as Freewave raise for us always goes back into the community, whether that be in the form of free to attend community CPR/AED sessions, or by placing public access defibrillators. Surfers and other beach users in the Bude area are that little bit safer now with the defibrillators we have helped provide for Widemouth beach, Summerleaze beach and Crooklets beach.”
