A CORNWALL Children’s Inclusive Football Day was held at the Launceston College Sports Hall recently.

Ten children from places such as Launceston, Bude, Tintagel and Callington and Liskeard with supported needs or disabilities enjoyed an hour and a half of fun activities including themed games, passing and shooting and a game.

The Disability Football Development Officer fot the Devon FA, Ashley Harris said it went well.

He said: “It was really good day and the first time we’ve done it down in Launceston. We had ten children in total including one with Down’s Syndrome and two or three with autism. We had some really positive feedback from the children and parents.

“It was a a really inclusive day and we’re going to run another one on Wednesday, April 11, during the Easter holidays and if that’s successful we’re planning on trying to do something weekly in partnership with Launceston Youth Football Club.

“If children are struggling to access normal football clubs, we provide a more inclusive youth football for them. Launceston will run it and we’ll provide the support and coaches for it.”

He added: “We’ve been given some FA funding for the provision of disability football in North Cornwall as there’s not a provision around there at the moment.”
