Around 30 people gathered at the battle monument in Stratton on Sunday, May 13 as part of a private ceremony to commemorate the 375th anniversary of the Battle of Stratton.
Mayor of Bude and Stratton, Cllr Bob Willingham, accompanied by Cllr Peter La Broy and Cllr Julia Bryson, attended the wreath laying ceremony and were joined by some members of the Sealed Knot, who will also be performing a re-enactment of the battle, which took place on May 16 in 1643, at the Heritage Festival on Saturday, July 28 at the Castle, Bude.
Members of the Old Cornwall Society and some local neighbours were also in attendance.
The site on which the battle took place is available for public access in Stamford Hill and is owned and maintained by Bude-Stratton Town Council.
The Sealed Knot is the oldest re-enactment society in the UK, a registered educational charity, and the single biggest re-enactment society in Europe.
The group brings history to life by staging events throughout the country all year round, offering a chance to experience first-hand the horrors of a nation at war with itself, as well as providing a glimpse of every day life in times past.
The Sealed Knot are the headline draw at the Bude-Stratton Heritage Festival, with the 375th anniversary re-enactment taking place at 11am on Saturday, July 28 alongside a living history camp in the Castle grounds.
On Sunday, July 29, there will be family fun with entertainers, a vintage fairground, stalls, show classes and live music.
