BUDE Ladies finished the first half of the season on a high with a convincing win against Bath Buccaneers.

The opening ten minutes was fairly evenly matched with both teams looking capable of taking the lead. However, Bude's defence, Pam Johns, Sharon Rundle, Miranda Pomeroy and Caroline Hobbs broke down most of the visiting side's attacks with 'keeper Rachel Pomeroy confidently clearing any shots.

Bude warmly welcomed back Claire James who slotted in where needed to boost the team.

The home side were awarded a few short corners, one of which Tammy Snowsill cooly converted to take them into the lead at half time.

After an encouraging chat from Dawn Messenger-Pates at half time and not wanting to disappoint their supporters, Bude upped their game in the second and took control of the match.

Bude had the ball zinging around the midfield of Tammy, Di Old, Naomi Hatcher and Robyn Pengilly. Leanne Stanbury once again provided a link between the midfield and Perdi Sobey and Briony Varcoe up front.

It was Tammy who opened the scoring in the second half, shortly followed by Briony Varcoe.

Then came a cracking goal from defender and player of the match Miranda Pomeroy. After a run up the right wing, Miranda beat Bath defenders to make it into the D where she fired the ball into the corner of the goal.

Once they had overcome the shock Bude continued to dominate the game! Di Old made some threatening runs down the middle and it was not long before Bude had another short corner, which Tammy once again converted, completing her hat-trick.

The visitors managed to clinch a goal but with only a couple minutes to go, it was a case of too little too late. Before the final whistle, Briony scored her second goal.
