GLADYS Baker of Boscastle recently celebrated her 100th birthday.

Born in Tooting, London, Gladys was the first of five children that her parents Kate and Rupert went on to have.

The family moved a number of times due to Rupert's police career and settled in Battersea where Rupert went on to become the chief inspector.

Gladys sat the school exams and did well enough to be offered a place at Surrey Lane School near to Battersea Park.
