A NORTH Petherwin midwife delivered a very special arrival recently — her own granddaughter!
Mrs Chris Henry told the 'Post' that her daughter Caroline's baby was six days overdue, and she felt as if it was never going to arrive, writes Suzanne Cleave.
Then the following night, she phoned Chris in the middle of the night to say the baby was on its way. Chris made her way over to Caroline's house, but found that things were moving very fast!
They phoned the Launceston team of midwives, but just before they got there, Chris had to step in and deliver the baby herself.
"Caroline didn't want me as her midwife, being her mum, but wasn't really bothered when it came to it in the end."
Rosie was born at home, weighing 7lb 9oz, a sister for two-year-old Kayla, and mum and baby are both doing well.
'IT WAS VERY SPECIAL'
Chris said she has delivered hundreds of babies during the ten years that she has been a midwife, but added: "It was very special. It was completely unexpected and so lovely to be the first one to hold her and see her little face."
Caroline told the 'Post' had sudden it happened: "I just woke up and felt like it could be happening, and then an hour later my mum got here. I said we should get in the car and go, but then literally it was half an hour she was born, so it was a good job mum was there.
"A lot of people say would you let your mum deliver your baby and I was like 'oh no,' but at the time I really didn't care. It was so quick, I really didn't think about it."
