TOM Hooper's adaptation of Les Miserables has been a popular blockbuster in the cinema recently — but have you spotted the local talent?

A Launceston man was approached in January last year by Pinewood Studios' Carrie Garner, asking for samples of his candle holders.

"I thought it was a wind-up at first," said Trevor Horn, an ex-civil servant who took up welding as a hobby when he retired. "It just came out of nowhere."

Despite his disbelief, Mr Horn contacted Ms Garner and was asked to send samples of his work that prop researchers for Les Miserables had seen online.

Mr Horn makes rustic style metal work, and had put pictures of his items on his son Ian's Cornish Copper and Metal Art website in September 2011.
