Remembering when the Queen came to North Cornwall. Thanks go to Judith Shepherd for supplying this photograph of the Queen and Prince Philip’s visit to Launceston in May 1956.

Judith said: “My grandparents Cecil and Gwendoline Robins, who were Mayor and Lady Mayoress that year, kept every moment and I have all the books and photo cuttings of the day—along with a bound programme of the Visit to Cornwall.

“They arrived at Guildhall Square Launceston at 5.40pm and inspected a Guard of Honour by the Cornwall Air Cadet Force, then signed a visitors book outside the Town Hall, with same pen used by George VI. They left Launceston Station at 6pm for the train to London.”

Do any of our readers have their own memories of the Queen’s various visits over the years to the local area or any pictures they would like to share?
