VILLAGERS from Coads Green recently got together at the hall, joining with members of the chapel for a celebratory picnic lunch.

Taking place on Sunday, July 10, the event saw a memorial plaque, in honour of Donald Phillips, unveiled by 87-year-old Pat Bartlett, a lifelong resident of the village.

The Rev Jo Smart blessed the plaque, and bouquets were presented to Mrs Bartlett and Mr Phillips’ sister, who also attended the unveiling.

Mr Phillips was the main instigator of the campaign to build the village hall over 50 years ago. The slate plaque in his memory shows a panoramic view of the tors, visible from the patio with their names.

It was felt that this would be a fitting memorial, as the view from the back of the hall towards Bodmin Moor is a very valued aspect of community life.

It is now two years since the opening of the play area in the field, and users of the hall are reminded of this by the commemorative plaque, which was kindly donated and fitted by Lee Creative Solutions.

The site has proved to be a very popular area, and is well used by all members of the community.
