A MEETING arranged by St Giles-on-the-Heath Parish Council was held in the Coronation Hall on Wednesday, March 4, which was attended by James Anstey from Devon County Council's Road Safety Department.

The meeting was held to look at the possibility of some sort of safe crossing for those who have to cross the busy A388. These include parents with children going to school, and the elderly and disabled.

Mr Anstey addressed the meeting which was attended by some 50 people. He said that certain criteria had to be met which would entail a survey being carried out to see how many people crossed the road over a given time. He said he would arrange for this to take place.

The meeting was attended by two PCSOs who had monitored the speed of the traffic through the village which has a thirty miles per hour speed limit. They reported that over 50 per cent of traffic was going over the 30mph limit, this being one of the reasons why a safe crossing is desperately needed.

Quite a lot of questions were put to Mr Anstey who went away having listened to some very strong feelings from those present. The parish council will monitor his reactions.
