SHORT or tall, in bright yellow bloom or still tucked away, the Camelford mayor’s sunflower challenge proved a huge success, with over 90 entries.
First announced at the Camelford spring fayre, with mayor Kirsty Ferguson handing out an astonishing 96 sunflower seeds to members of the community — young or old, expert gardeners or beginners — she returned to the gardens and courtyards of many residents in Camelford over a recent weekend to judge the final results — some of which reached an astounding height!
Due to the vast number of entries for the sunflower challenge, Cllr Ferguson decided to judge the flowers in children’s and adult categories, with an overall winner of the mayor’s challenge cup. The lucky winner was Noah Rosen, whose sunflower had reached an impressive 9ft.
Certificates are to be issued to all who took part and had their sunflowers measured, with prize giving also to commence shortly.
