IN proposing a toast to the Launceston Town Band at its annual dinner held last week at Eagle House Hotel, the Mayor of Launceston, Cllr Rob Tremain, said that, as a Lanson lad, he was immensely proud of the band, which represented the town so well, not only in and around Launceston and the adjoining area but much further afield both at engagements and contests.
He was particularly pleased that the band had not succumbed to commercial sponsorship and was not the Peugeot, Tesco or Sainsbury Band but Launceston Town Band.
He appreciated the number of occasions both the senior and junior bands played in the town — not only on Mayor's Sunday and Remembrance Day but also in informal concerts in the Square in the summer and carols at Christmas time.
The band also provided another service in the town with its Wednesday lunches in the Bandroom and bacon baps at the market in the Square, which brought people together for food and fellowship as well as raising funds.
