THE residents at Trelana Care Home in Bude have been treated to their very own, on-site pub — the Trelana Arms!

Most of the residents at Trelana are unable to get to their local, so the home’s team decided to bring their local to them, decorating one room to look like a pub.

Mayor of Bude and Stratton, Bob Willingham officially opened it on Wednesday, December 5, and pulled the first pint!

The residents have really enjoyed watching it take shape and have been involved in the layout. They are delighted with the new addition to the home.

One resident, 92-year-old William Green, said: “It’s going to be lovely to go in after lunch and have a little tipple, especially when our relatives come — they can spend an hour chatting over a drink!”

The pub is stocked with a selection of alcoholic drinks, as well as non-alcoholic. It also has crisps and nuts, everything you would expect in a pub, all free of charge for the residents.

There is a dartboard and traditional board games such as Dominoes and cards, along with music and a piano.

The home will be hosting pub quizzes, sing-a-longs around the piano, pie and pint nights and much more.

The team hope it will become another area for the residents to socialise in, and provide somewhere for relatives to enjoy having a drink with their loved one.

There are still a few tweaks to be made, but the team were keen to open as they wanted to make the most of it as soon as possible — especially over the Christmas period.

Carol Matthews from Trelana Care Home said: “Considering most of it has been accomplished by donations and the hard work of staff, we feel we have succeeded in what we set out to do and give the residents their very own Trelana Arms!”
