ON ACCOUNT of a rogue rain shower before this year's Poughill Revel, the marquee opened an unprecedented four minutes early, to keep visitors dry.

Quarter of an hour later, the rain clouds had gone and the sun shone — like everybody's used to in Poughill for the first Thursday in August each year.

The revel was blessed this year by Rev Neal Street and officially opened by Mrs Julia Shepherd of Lansdown Dairy — both longstanding supporters. Mrs Shepherd went on to crown Ella Paton as the new revel queen in the company of her attendants, Khaya Paton and Bethan Palmer.
