Unfortunately, the weather was not in the favour of North Cornwall Marie Curie Fundraising Group for their Blooming Great Summer Tea Party on Saturday, July 15.
The event was held at Rosehip Barn at St Clether, where although the original plan had been to hold much of the proceedings outdoors, there was thankfully ample room to bring everything indoors so everyone could remain warm and dry.
With delicious homemade cakes and scones for the cream teas, these were certainly popular with everyone.
There was a bar run by Rock Gin with plenty sampling their selection of North Cornish rums and gins, including their new gin “Live the Dream” launched just that week helping to raise funds for Marie Curie; the timing could not have been more perfect.
Rock Gin now have shops in Bude, Tintagel and Wadebridge or you can purchase online with a donation from every bottle sold going to Marie Curie South West.
Alongside this was an art exhibition and craft fair featuring local independent artists, crafters and business owners, and of course, their huge collection of quality high-street clothing, shoes and accessories available to buy.
The event raised a wonderful £890.34 profit which has been donated to Marie Curie South West to continue providing care and support for the terminally ill in the area.
A spokesperson said: “Everyone who took part in the day, whether volunteer or visitor enjoyed themselves.
“Being the first time the group had organised this event, it looks set to be one to repeat next year, and as soon as a date has been set, a request for sunshine will be submitted!”

“Whether you are able to play a small or big part, everyone is given a warm welcome to this small friendly group who are based in Bude and cover North Cornwall and Holsworthy areas.
“A big shout out needs to go to all those who baked, helped before or on the day, donated raffle and tombola prizes or clothes.
“Also, to LCH Vehicle Hire in Bude who have a large range of self-drive cars and vans to hire to suit your needs at www.lchvehiclehire.com which meant we could move all the clothes in one go with the help of some extra volunteers.”
The following week a selection of designer clothes were taken to the Green Threads Cornwall Slow Fashion Market at Bude Parkhouse Centre, an event aimed at promoting sustainable fashion, where a further £165 was raised for the charity.
